Brief
The intent of the lecture was to help students understand the logistics and functioning of an incubation center. The main aim was to provide insights to students on this topic by giving them a chance to interact with professionals who have been actively involved and are a part of these incubation centers. The research, case studies and interactive discussions with professionals will help students design an incubation center in their AD studio.
The lecture started by a presentation which was given Dr. Priam Pillai and was followed by group discussions and doubt-clearing sessions. Dr. Priam Pillai explained the various stages involved in developing an idea to MVP (Minimum Viable Product). He explained in detail about the pre-incubation stage, incubation stage and the final launching stage. Students doubts regarding the difference between incubation centers and co-working spaces were also cleared by Dr. Priam Pillai’s presentation. He described about minimum requirements which the government prescribes to start an incubation center in any institute. Student’s questions regarding financing of these set ups were cleared by Dr. Priam Pillai and Prof. Celina joy by providing them with live functioning incubation center examples. Students also learnt new terms like accelerators, makers spaces, component library and were able to understand their requirements in terms of space extents and its quality. A Pillai Campus visit was also organized for the same on 11th July, 2022 and students were able to experience these spaces mainly maker’s studio, research labs, Machine workshops, E studio library. Overall, the lecture was successful in bringing clarity among students regarding the set-up and functioning of an incubation center.
