The 2 hours long session began with the introduction to speaker by Prof. Tejashree Lakras. The presentation was given by Architect Rohan Shivkumar on ‘Positions/Propositions- 10 Thesis Stories’ which helped students and faculty understand the importance of research oriented approach for Design Dissertation. The session emphasized through the 10 different student journeys of their theses, on the necessity of identifying the architect’s role and contribution to the healthy growth of the city and society and how significant it is to identify the realistic yet student’s interest oriented research area/ topic. The presentation kept on insisting upon the fact that every research topic demands specific methodology and should have its own independent outcome and should be kept away from any conventional method of architectural design approach. With an interesting and very informative set of stories, the session opened up to the interactive discussion with students. The speaker received appreciation from faculty and students for his insightful presentation. The students shared their experiences, challenges that they are facing in the thesis journey and received very thoughtful feedback from the speaker. It also made them realise that documentation of every single thought and reflection of the same in organized manner is very important for research writing part in Design dissertation.
