The Mutation – Urban Design Workshop was held from 23rd to 29th March, 2025 at Pillai College of Architecture, New Panvel. It was a week-long workshop designed for M.Arch. (Urban Design) students. The event began with a detailed session by the guest expert, followed by a week of independent student project development, culminating in final presentations.
The workshop aimed to enhance students’ design process and conceptual thinking specifically related to urban interventions. It was significant in supporting students to bridge theory and practical application in urban design, fostering strategic and critical approaches to urban transformation.
The guest expert was Ms. Chaarvi Mathur, an Urban Designer. She led the initial session, sharing theoretical frameworks, strategic approaches, and practical methods for urban design.
Following points were covered in the lecture
- Theoretical frameworks for urban transformation
- Strategic approaches to urban design
- Design methods for conceptualizing and implementing urban intervention
- Application of these frameworks and methods to students’ own studio projects
The workshop enriched students’ understanding of urban design by integrating theory with practice. It encouraged critical thinking and strategic project development, enabling students to create context-specific urban design solutions with greater conceptual clarity.
