To promote legal awareness and empower the youth with knowledge of women’s rights, Pillai College of Architecture organized a guest lecture on 21st March 2024. The session was held in the AV Room on the second floor and was attended by first-year students. The esteemed guest speaker for the session was Advocate Juily Chavan, a practicing lawyer from Panvel known for her work in legal advocacy and women’s empowerment.

Advocate Chavan addressed the students on the theme of “Legal Awareness of Women’s Rights Amongst the Youth.” She began by explaining the historical context of women’s rights in India and how legal reforms have evolved to safeguard these rights in modern times. The session emphasized the importance of being aware of one’s rights and the legal remedies available in case of violations.

Key Points Covered in the Lecture:

Overview of the Constitutional provisions ensuring gender equality.

Introduction to key laws like the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act (POSH), 2013, and Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.

Role of law enforcement and the legal recourse mechanisms available to women.

Importance of legal literacy among youth to create a more informed and supportive society.
Encouragement for students to be active advocates of gender equality and legal rights.
