As part of the ongoing Swachhta Campaign, the NSS unit of Pillai’s College of Architecture organized a Public Space Cleaning Drive in response to the aftermath of the Garba celebration held the previous day. The event had witnessed the presence of over 1000 students, leaving the parking ground littered with plastic waste, food plates, and other disposables.

The Cleanup Effort

A dedicated team of 40 student volunteers took up the challenge to restore the space. Armed with gloves, garbage bags, and a strong sense of responsibility, the students cleaned the entire parking lot over a span of 2 hours, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The activity was carried out with enthusiasm, teamwork, and a shared commitment to environmental hygiene.

Significance of the Activity

This initiative highlighted the importance of community-driven cleanliness and the role of students in promoting sustainable habits. It reinforced the values of the Swachh Bharat Mission, encouraging participants to take ownership of public spaces and lead by example. The event also served as a reminder that celebration and responsibility must go hand in hand.

Impact

The visibly transformed parking ground stood as a testament to the power of collective action. Faculty members and NSS coordinators praised the students’ effort and encouraged them to continue such practices in future campus events.

The Public Space Cleaning Drive was not just a cleanup — it was a statement of civic pride and environmental consciousness. Through this activity, NSS volunteers demonstrated that small actions can lead to meaningful change.
