Objective of this event was to introduce the fundamental principles of architectural acoustics and their relevance in building design and to explore the role of acoustics in enhancing spatial quality, user comfort, and functional performance in various building types.

Ar. Rolins Thomas Roy, an experienced acoustics consultant, He began by sharing his professional journey in the field of architecture and acoustics, offering insights into his interdisciplinary work and real-world project experiences.

He explained the fundamental concepts of sound behavior in built environments, including sound absorption, transmission, and insulation. Various acoustic materials and their applications in different building types were discussed in detail.

Special emphasis was placed on acoustic strategies in hospitality design, particularly in hotel spaces such as guest rooms, banquet halls, and service areas.

Students were also introduced to technical aspects such as RT (Reverberation Time), STC (Sound Transmission Class), and NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient), supported by analytical tools and simulations.

The session helped students understand the importance of acoustics as a vital parameter in achieving occupant comfort and design performance.
