The guest lecture titled “IGBC Green Campus Certification Guidelines” was conducted on 19th June 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the AV Room of the Architecture Department. The session was jointly organized by Pillai College of Engineering and Pillai College of Architecture under their sustainability awareness initiative. The event was open to students across disciplines, particularly those interested in sustainable design and green building practices.
The session aimed to introduce students to the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) and its Green Campus Certification framework. As sustainability becomes a core concern in architectural and urban development, understanding IGBC guidelines is crucial for integrating eco-friendly strategies in campus design, operation, and management.
Mr. Bhavesh Mehta, an IGBC professional with a strong background in green building facilitation, conducted the session. He is presently associated with the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) and has previously worked with Reliance Industries Limited, where he managed sustainability and energy-efficiency projects. His expertise lies in promoting sustainable building standards and conducting training programs across India.
He covered following points during his address:
- Overview of IGBC and its certification systems.
- Step-by-step explanation of Green Campus Certification Guidelines.
- Importance of energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, and renewable energy in campus operations.
- Case studies of certified campuses demonstrating measurable sustainability benefits.
- Discussion on how students and institutions can contribute to green initiatives.
Students gained a foundational understanding of how educational campuses can adopt sustainable design principles and the process of achieving IGBC certification. The lecture emphasized practical steps for implementing eco-friendly measures, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility among future architects and engineers.
