Objective:
The talk was to educate students about concepts related to museum as a space, understanding the goals of museum as an organisation and development of its Spaces on the basis of the collection, the visitor and utilisation of already existing heritage spaces. The talk was followed by a discussion on the topic and the question answer round.

Brief
Ms. Riya Welingkar covered the following topics during the talk
- What is a museum and it’s types
- Utilisation of an existing museum space: requirements and challenges
- Development of a new museum: facilities and challenges
- The concept of museum fatigue
She explained about the points by defining the museum and making the students understand the typology of museums based on administration and collection with the help of examples from all over India. She also touched upon the idea of quirky museums as a type. She highlighted the challenges of utilising an already existing heritage building by focusing on the example of Marine Museum at Nhava which is the oldest maritime museum in the country and introduced the students to the facilities that the visitors require, how to reduce their fatigue and how objects and the theme play an important role in creation of a new museum space.
Ms. Neha Sayed covered the following topics during the talk
- The object research for display: Through the use of artefact analysis she explained the many attributes of an artefact which should be considered for the museum display.
- The correlations of the object with the display and the built form: By giving some examples of already constructed museums she explained the relationship of subjective representation and its relationship with the character of the built form.
