The IIA Brihan Mumbai Centre Design Dissertation (IIA BMC-DD) Awards 2022 & 2023 served as a significant platform for students across colleges to demonstrate their creativity, skills, and innovative approaches in architectural design. This inter-college competition, organized online by the esteemed IIA Brihan Mumbai Centre, provided a dynamic environment for students to engage with contemporary design challenges and showcase their potential.

Among the participating colleges was Pillai College of Architecture, which had a notable presence with 8 talented students contributing their Design Dissertation projects. These students brought diverse perspectives and unique ideas to the competition, enriching the overall discourse and demonstrating the breadth of talent within their institution. The participants included Mugdha Dhavle, Abhishek Hegde, Shreya Nachne, Akash Tekwani from the academic year 2021-22, and Angel Jaison, Subiksha Rajagopalan, Swarnim Waingankar, Rau Tambat from the academic year 2022-23.

One standout participant from Pillai College of Architecture was Abhishek Hegde, whose exceptional work and dedication to excellence earned him prestigious recognition. Abhishek’s project, titled “River Responsive Stories – Communal Engagement,” not only showcased his technical skills and creative vision but also demonstrated a deep understanding of architectural principles and their real-world applications. Abhishek had the opportunity to present his project to the jury online, showcasing his project’s strengths and engaging in a dialogue about his design approach.

Being shortlisted for the IIA Design Dissertation Award AY 2021-22 was a significant achievement for Abhishek and a testament to his hard work and talent. His recognition added to the reputation of Pillai College of Architecture as a hub of innovative thinking and architectural prowess.

Overall, the participation of Pillai College of Architecture students, including Abhishek Hegde and the other 7 participants, in the IIA IIA Brihan Mumbai Centre – DD Awards highlighted the importance of such competitions in nurturing talent, fostering creativity, and promoting excellence in architectural education.
