“Preparing for Placement”
A discourse on applying to architecture firms, writing cover letters, preparing résumé and making portfolio to get the desired job.
The architectural internship is scheduled in 8th Semester of the course. At this time, they need to prepare their résumé, portfolio showcasing their works and cover letter addressing their interest particular firm.
In our field, there are many different firms that specialize in a particular stream. Interior design, Furniture or product design, Landscape design, Urban design are to name a few. Students need to express their interests and prepare their applications accordingly.
Seminar aimed at guiding students in job application process by presenting do’s and dont’s of writing cover letters, making résumé and portfolios.

Seminar Minutes:
Architect Jinu Kurien started the session with various examples of application letters written to their firms by many different students and highlighted on the mistakes that students commonly made. He then described the correct way of writing applications. He also discussed various resumes templates that students commonly use and he pointed out obvious mistakes in them. This gave students aclarityon ‘what not to do’ and also the professional way of preparing resumes and application letters.
Ar. Jinu Kurien elaborated on various details of Portfolio preparation. He gave students clarity about do’s and don’ts of preparing portfolios and communicating with prospective employers to follow up on the application.
Ar. Jinu Kurien opened various different career options that are not directly related to architecture, yet many Architecture graduates have successfully established their careers in those streams.
Prof. Kavita Pradhan highlighted on university guidelines of professional practice internship. Also described the requirements of preparing a report and maintaining records in the form of log sheets during the duration of the internship.
