The core and visiting faculty members met to review the above with a focus on Architectural Design studio work of B.Arch.
Summary of the workshop proceedings:
- Prof. Smita Dalvi welcomed everyone to the meeting.
- Architectural Design teams of 1st to 4th year made short presentations on the projects undertaken in the academic year 2022-23. These studios were led by Prof. Ashwini Bhosale, Prof. Vrinda Padhye, Prof. Ajita Deodhar and Prof. Rupali Vaidya respectively.
- The faculty members then proceeded to view the exhibition of representative AD studio work, which was kept ready on the previous day.
One by one each semester’s work was discussed to assess the output in terms of conduct of the studio, scheduling, design quality, representation quality, issues tackled etc. A lot of feedback got generated for every studio. At this time, the jury feedback which was collected was also discussed to be acted upon while conducting the AD studios. - The post lunch was kickstarted by Prof. Jinu Kurien who made a thought-provoking presentation on design pedagogy, wherein he briefly analysed some trends in student output. He moved on to discussing algorithms for analysing buildings and how they can be used effectively to guide students to think and also to develop a vocabulary of design.
- In continuation of the academic review, Principal Dr. Sudnya Mahimkar made a presentation on the student feedback collected twice in 2022-23. This included feedback on curriculum, delivery of curriculum and general suggestions. This was analysed and it was suggested to focus on improving the student satisfaction regarding curriculum delivery.
- It was also suggested that the feedback collected on the curriculum should be compiled and sent to the Mumbai University/ BOS for their deliberations.
- Next, AD studio teams of the just started semester (Term-I of 2023-24) presented the studio briefs being implemented in the current semester. Semester 3 will begin from mid July, the team presented the alternative ideas under consideration. Semester 5, 7 and 9 teams presented their topics and invited feedback and suggestions for sites and program. As usual, this was a very useful exercise to refine the studio briefs.
- Principal Dr. Sudnya Mahimkar informed about the various electives and college projects planned for the current semester.
- She also urged the year in-charges to conduct horizontal integration meetings in the coming week. It was decided to hold them on 15 June.
- The workshop ended with a vote of thanks by Prof. Dalvi.
