The Pillai College of Architecture recently celebrated World Environmental Day through a Poster Design Competition held on 2nd December, 2023. This annual event, a highlight in the college’s calendar, aims to engage students creatively in environmental advocacy, with this year’s focus being on pollution and pollution control. Conducted on Google Classroom, the competition facilitated broad participation.

The contest required students to create visually compelling and informative posters that either raised awareness about pollution or promoted ideas on how to control it. The response was overwhelming, with numerous entries showcasing a diverse range of styles, interpretations, and messages. Each submission was evaluated on its originality, relevance to the theme, artistic quality, and the impact of its message.

On 5th December, 2023, the results were announced, revealing a set of winners who distinguished themselves through their creativity and insightful perspectives on environmental issues. Nidhi Mirajkar and Sunita Swain clinched the first prize with their innovative approach that blended impactful imagery with actionable information on pollution control. The second prize was awarded to Nupur Mahadik and Vaishnavi Patil, who impressed the judges with their detailed artistic expression and effective communication of the theme. The third prize went to Lakshana Iyer and Tessy Thomas for their evocative design that skillfully conveyed the consequences of pollution.

Special mention were made for Shlok Sarmalkar and Asha Bareja, whose entries, although not placing in the top three, were noted for their exceptional creativity and persuasive messages. These accolades acknowledge the significant effort and thought put into their works, emphasizing that every contribution towards raising environmental awareness is valuable.

This competition not only highlighted the creative talents of the students at Pillai College of Architecture but also played a crucial role in fostering a deeper understanding and commitment towards environmental issues among the youth. By integrating art and environmental education, the event inspired students to become advocates for sustainability and pollution control, reflecting the college’s commitment to nurturing responsible and aware future architects and designers.
