Biography of the
Resource Faculty
An Architect and Heritage Conservation Consultant and an active academician at Pillai College of Architecture Panvel.
Being a Saint Gobain scholarship winner of 2018 cycle, She has been working on Kalyan's architectural heritage as part of her research and practice. She has also published and presented more such research projects in several conferences and journals. Her approach towards heritage conservation is community centric which brings her closer to the least explored historic and Maratha style of settlements like Wai, Tuljapur, Paithan, Lonar, Panvel, Thane and Kalyan.
Her current works are focussing on documentation of architectural history of Panvel and secondly, cultural heritage and natural heritage protection at Lonar.

Course Description: The course aims to generate awareness amongst students about heritage conservation and bring the heritage centred approach in their design practice. The course plans to uncover the history and heritage of Kalyan by documenting it in the form of sheets and the documentary (short film) in order to make the locals also aware about the significance of the heritage of Kalyan and hence work towards the conservation of the same.

Course Objectives:

  1. To bring heritage centred approach in design approach of students of Architecture
  2. To enable students with the skills of documentation and photography and film editing
  3. To give students an exposure of on-site heritage conservation works

Course Outcome: The course outcomes is an exhibition showcasing styles of historical architecture of Kalyan

Course Plan

11th May, 20198:30 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.Introduction to the course including What is Heritage, What is historical architecture and what is heritage conservation. A short presentation by the conductor will give direction to the 5 days long program and also will make students familiar with the collaborative methodology of the research ahead.
12.30 p.m. - 4.30 p.m.The second half session of first day will be conducted on site. A heritage walk, unfolding the history and heritage of Kalyan will give students chance to explore different aspects of heritage conservation filed and will also open up their minds to the skill of photography and filming.
12th May, 20198:30 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.The second day will begin with the detailed brain storming session and discussion on previous site visits and further will make students sketch out the journey of walk and site visit and make them showcase their graphical representation ideas for representing the various styles of kalyan.
12.30 p.m. - 4.30 p.m.This session plans to focus on transferring the measured drawing data into CAD software and preparing the final drawings for exhibition. The session will end with the collection of different ideas of representation and finalizing one for the final exhibition purpose.
12th May, 20198:30 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.The fourth day will also initiated on the site for filming all the remains of architectural heritage of Kalyan. This day will also take the students to the different Wada owners and make the students exposed to local history and local culture of the place. This will give students more exposure to the on-site community centred design approach.
12.30 p.m. - 4.30 p.m.The second half of the day will give students an opportunity to discuss their ideas of photography inculcation in the exhibition format and make use of the same for short film purpose which can act as an extended outcome of this workshop.
