Today, most of us are unable to manage time and this disrupts their work life balance. The continuous pressure to meet deadlines, engaging busy schedules and the self-struggle for improvement in desired fields have left many people stressed. Stress leads to unhealthy eating habits like not maintaining timings of meals, having junk food or excessive food (stress eating), skipping meals, addictions, lack of improper sleep, etc. The overall result is deteriorated health which then impacts your every aspect of life. Right management of stress thus becomes the most important factor in managing healthy lifestyle. As architecture is a very demanding course and students often find it difficult to manage time for their submissions and other allied activities, proper guidance to students at this age would be fruitful in their current and future lives. In support to this idea, MES Pillai College of Architecture’s Women Development Cell, Anubhuti and PiCA Senate had organized a guest lecture on ‘Health and Wellness for Stress Management’ on 20th December, 2022 in the 6th Floor Mini Auditorium. The first session was taken by the guest speaker Mrs. Bharti Iyer who is a Yoga Instructor, a digital Yoga coach, Corporate Yoga Trainer and an author. She highlighted the 3D’s that is Dedication, Discipline and Determination when it comes to managing your health. The head-shoulder-knee-toes game was played by students in this session. She elaborated on the mantra of doing everything in moderation and also explained everyone about neuro yoga. She also taught a small breathing exercise to students and also took laughter yoga which changed the entire vibe of the session. The second session was taken by the guest speaker Ms. Gurpreet Kaur Khalsa who is a soft skills trainer, TEFL Coach, poet and Self-confidence coach. Her main focus was to enable students to manage their time, for which she introduced the 8-8-8-hour calculation schedule of the day. Her session also talked about ways of mental healing which included options like spending time with nature, practicing hobbies, having a pet etc. Her lecture concluded by doing a small meditation session with students. The students actively participated in both the sessions and thoroughly enjoyed both of them. The key mantras and exercises taught in this guest lecture will definitely help the students and faculties who attended these sessions to manage their stress and also help them incorporate healthy habits in their lives.
