Welcome to the comprehensive report detailing the five-day workshop series orchestrated by the Student Council at Pillai College of Architecture. Designed to enrich the educational journey of our our students, the workshops featured a curated blend of hands-on activities, informative sessions, and expert-led discussions. Our aim was to provide a platform for students to expand their knowledge, develop practical skills, and establish valuable connections within the architectural community. Throughout this report, we invite you to explore the diverse range of topics covered, the engaging learning experiences shared, and the profound impact of collaboration and industry insight. As we navigate through each workshop session, we reflect on the collective efforts that made this event possible and anticipate the continued growth and innovation inspired by these enriching experiences. Day 1
Lippan Art and Enamel Art – 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Lipan Art – 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

On 5th February 2024, a vibrant and engaging Lienad Art Workshop was conducted in our college premises by the esteemed Professor Vidya Apgolkar The workshop aimed to introduce students to the traditional art form of Lippan a decorative technique originating from the rural regions of Wester India, particularly Gujarat.

With an attendance of 83 enthusiastic students, the workshop promised to be an enriching experience for all participants. Following the introductory session, students were provided with materials essential for Lippan art, including day, straw, and mirrors. Professor Angolkar demonstrated the intricate techniques involved in creating Lippan artwork, from polding, the day to embedding mirrors strategically to reflect light and create stunning visual effects. Students were encouraged to actively participate, allowing them to explore their creativity and hone their artistic skills under the expert guidance of Professor Angolkar.

Enamel Art – 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Professor Kedar Sinde commenced the workshop with an illuminating overview of enamel art, tracing its historical significance and contemporary applications. The workshop garnered significant interest, attracting a total of 36 enthusiastic students. His insightful discourse provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of the medium’s versatility and aesthetic possibilities.The workshop encompassed practical demonstrations and hands-on sessions, allowing students to immerse themselves in the enchanting world of enamel work. Professor Sinde meticulously guided participants through the fundamental techniques of enamel application. Participants were afforded the opportunity to experiment with diverse materials, color palettes, and firing processes, enabling them to express their creativity and explore innovative design concepts. Professor Sinde’s patient guidance and expertise nurtured an atmosphere of learning and experimentation, fostering a conducive environment for artistic exploration and self-expression. The resounding success of the workshop underscores the enduring relevance and appeal of enamel art as a medium of artistic expression.

Day 2
Tie-die – 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Tie-dye workshop was hosted by Ms. Sarawati Patel as part of an event at our college, which aimed to engage students in creative endeavors. The workshop, held recently, garnered considerable interest with 44 enthusiastic students participating in the vibrant activity. Under the guidance of Ms. Patel, the workshop focused on the art of tie-dyeing on T-shirts.

The workshop commenced with Ms. Patel providing a brief introduction to tie-dye techniques, emphasizing various methods and patterns that could be achieved. With her expertise, students were encouraged to unleash their creativity and experiment with different designs. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as participants eagerly soaked their fabric pieces and meticulously twisted, folded, or bunched them to create unique patterns.

Throughout the workshop, Ms. Patel circulated among the students, offering personalized guidance and encouragement. Her hands-on approach facilitated a conducive learning environment where participants felt empowered to explore their artistic inclinations freely. As a result, students not only learned the technical aspects of tie-dyeing but also gained valuable insights into color theory and design principles.

The workshop concluded with a display of the finished tie-dyed creations, showcasing the diverse interpretations and imaginative designs crafted by the participants. The event proved to be a resounding success, fostering artistic expression among students. Participants left the workshop with a sense of accomplishment and new found appreciation for the art of tie-dyeing.

Day 3
Brick Workshop – 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

A brick workshop was conducted at our college as part of an event organized by Prof. Sasmit Acharekar and Prof. Jayesh Patil for students interested in construction and architecture. The workshop, which took place on 8th February 2024, attracted the participation of 53 enthusiastic students.

Throughout the workshop, students were engaged in practical demonstrations and interactive sessions that highlighted the fundamental principles of bricklaying and construction. Under the guidance of Prof. Acharekar and Prof. Patil, participants learned about the significance of bricks as a primary building material and gained insight into the intricate methods involved in their assembly.

The workshop featured a combination of theoretical discussions and practical exercises, allowing students to grasp the essential concepts of brick construction while also honing their practical skills. From understanding the different types of bricks to mastering the art of mortar application, participants were equipped with valuable knowledge that will undoubtedly serve them well in their future endeavors within the field of architecture and construction.

Moreover, the workshop fostered a collaborative learning environment where students had the opportunity to exchange ideas, share experiences, and seek guidance from seasoned professionals.

Day 4
Bamboo Workshop- 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

On February 9th, 2024, a bamboo workshop organized by Architect Lalit Davate was conducted at our college premises, as part of an event aimed at promoting sustainable architecture and innovative construction techniques. The workshop garnered the participation of 31 enthusiastic students from various disciplines. The main focus of the workshop was to familiarize the participants with the versatility of bamboo as a construction material and to impart knowledge about its various construction techniques. Throughout the workshop, students engaged in hands-on activities where they learned to build small-scale structures using bamboo. Under the guidance of Architect Davate, students explored the structural properties of bamboo and discovered its potential in creating resilient and eco-friendly structures. They were introduced to the different types of bamboo and learned how to select and treat bamboo for construction purposes.Furthermore, the workshop provided insights into the traditional and contemporary methods of bamboo construction, including joinery techniques and structural design principles. Architect Davate shared his expertise and practical tips, emphasizing the importance of sustainability and environmental consciousness in architectural practices.The interactive nature of the workshop encouraged active participation and fostered a collaborative learning environment among the students. Through experimentation and exploration, participants gained valuable insights into the possibilities offered by bamboo as a sustainable building material.

In conclusion, the workshop series organized by the Student Council at Pillai College of Architecture has provided valuable learning experiences for students of all five years. Through practical activities and expert guidance, participants have gained new skills and connections within the architectural community.We anticipate the enduring impact of these experiences as students continue to apply and build upon their newfound knowledge.
