Introduction
Understanding Urban Form through lens of Legibility and Permeability Workshop Understanding Urban form is very crucial for any Urban Designer while lens for it keeps changing. Lens of legibility and permeability creates image of area on user’s mind and this aspect is very crucial for active public realm. Legibility and permeability helps in active and safe public spaces. This particular aspect is focused in this workshop to develop observation skills and mapping skills of students.
Schedule and Details
Day 1 – Topic of legibility and permeability was introduced to students through presentation and examples. Its relevance in terms of Understanding urban fabric was emphasized minutely. Related reading were given to students for making them aware about the theoretical background of the topic. Secondary data collection for proposed site i.e. Ballard estate was done in class
Day 2 – Site visit was conducted along with expert to aware students about how to observe and look at city fabric. Developing observations about tangible and intangible parameters of city was discussed on site along with examples.
Day 3 – Discussions on mapping and application of theory
Day 4 – Discussions on mapping and application of theory
Day 5 – Final Presentation on Understanding Legibility and permeability of Ballard district through various maps which talks about tangible and intangible parameters of area.
